Hurricane Ike hit the Galveston, Texas area mid September of 2008. Classified as a category 2 hurricane, Ike exhibited an unusually large wind field; which brought storm surges characteristic of a Category 4 to the coast. In the U.S. alone, Ike caused an estimated $24 Billion dollars worth of damage and is blamed for over 112 deaths, making it the third most destructive hurricane to ever make landfall in the United States.

Angleton, Texas, located in Brazoria County, was battered by Hurricane Ike. Angleton is a community that offers the best of both worlds; a small town atmosphere, but is within minutes of the conveniences of Houston, TX. A Mandatory evacuation was called for most of the county as Ike raked through the area causing, property damage, power outages and contaminating water sources.

Angleton is home to Life Foursquare church and their church for Spanish speaking people, La Vida Regional Cuadrangular (LaVida). The congregations of these churches are exciting and growing fellowships of dynamic people. Alex and Lisa Montealegre serve as the Pastors of La Vida. Since Hurricane Ike they have been partnering with World In Need (WIN) to bring relief to Brazoria County by supplying food, water, and clothing to the people of Holiday Lakes and the surrounding towns of Long Pond, World Loop, and Planters Point; as well as, to the cities of Freeport, Clute Richwood, Jones Creek, Oyster Creek and Angleton.

La Vida adopted Holiday Lakes in 2007 as their Mission Field and now God has called them to expand the ministry to the County. La Vida has begun to work with them on multiple ministry levels including: Evangelism, Door to Door Visitation, Mobile Food Banks and KIDS FEST (A back to school supply event).

WIN has been able to offer support to La Vida as they continue their ongoing outreach to these communities. La Vida has begun to establish relationships based on hope and trust with the residents of this area. More than 5,000 people have been served and ministered to, through the food, diapers, toiletries and water provided by WIN and several other organizations. So far 256 salvations have been recorded because of this outreach ministry to Brazoria County and over 500 tons of supplies have been distributed.

Pastor Alex stated in an update “We have a great opportunity to claim these cities for the kingdom through Ongoing Outreach Relief and that is our vision and plan. We have teams of volunteers working every week, bringing hope to the hopeless, restoring people to God and taking the Gospel and the Kingdom of Heaven forward bringing hundreds of people to Salvation through Jesus Christ”.
